Racehorses Still The Big Draw

An enticing smorgasbord of horses attracted a diverse crowd to the
Delaware Co Fairgrounds for the 47th Annual Pre-Jug Mixed Sale.
It was “One Stop Shop” with a wide variety of racehorses,
broodmares, weanlings, black-type yearlings, and green prospects
all available in a two-day format. The broad geographical appeal
was evident when the first 50 horses went to 12 different states
with buyers in attendance from across the continent.
Racehorses still generate the most excitement and the highest prices
came from that category. The classy pacer, Last Resort sporting
$178,000 in earnings and a record of 1:52.1 made the trip from the
state of Delaware in Elizabeth Brittingham’s trailer and returned
there with John Kevin Lare for $20,000.
A trio of Life Sign three year olds grabbed the crowd’s attention.
Fresh off the Kentucky Fair Circuit, Signing Off was purchased by
Neal Ehrhart of Manheim, Pennsylvania for $18,000.Then Louis Peachy,
also from Pennsylvania, eagerly signed the ticket on My Life p,3,1:55.4,
for $17,000. Racing in $8,000 conditioned claimers at Indianapolis
Downs, the half sister to Live Or Die p,2,1:51.4 ($728,264) and
Sea The Usa P,2,1:53.3 ($765,521) was consigned by Eash Racing Stable.
Brent Tartar of Mason, Ohio was thrilled to get the final bid of
$15,500 on another royally bred, filly, Timeisonyourside, from the
family of Dontgetinmyway p,1:50.2 ($1,413,550) and Historic p,3,1:51f
($1,334,861).
Western Intent p,3,1:54.4f, a handsome son of Western Hanover that
had been competing at Scioto Downs was purchased by Robert Zubkoff
of Monroe, Michigan for $18,000 to race at Hazel Park. Multiple
Indiana Fair Stakes winner, Nuclear Man, by The Wrath of Pan, moves
to Northfield Park and owner Jenny Belcher on a $17,000 bid.
A couple of nicely bred trotters showing competitive lines at The
Meadows were well received. Midgie 4,1:57.2, a six year old
son of Donerail, was purchased by Spicer Racing of Duette, Florida
for $15,500, and the three year old Lindy Lane gelding, Sydnickidy
Lane went to Jane Lee Jones of Pennsylvania for $14,000.
Potential stars among the yearlings were a beautiful Cambest colt
consigned by Walter Fister for $11,000, a classy Striking Sahbra
gelding for $8500, and a No Nukes filly for $8300.
